Minnesota Pipe Laying Surety Bond is required of Contractors who install building water and sewer piping, are required to maintain a pipe-laying bond with DLI. If you are a contractor that does install subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS), you are licensed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). In this case you would turn in your bond to the MPCA, not the DLI. While it is the same bond form, it is important you turn the bond in to the correct licensing department.
All private businesses in Minnesota that design, install, repair, maintain, operate, or inspect septic systems must be licensed with the MPCA. Local and state government employees do not require a license, but must obtain individual certification in the specialty area(s) applicable to their work. Local units of government cannot require additional local licenses for septic system professionals in Minnesota. Contractors that install building water and sewer piping must be licensed by the DLI.
