The Bullet Train, approved by the voters of California to connect San Francisco with Los Angeles via a high speed rail line can officially move forward…sort of. The first leg of the line, connecting Fresno with Bakersfield (not exactly LA to SF) has been apoproved by the Obama administration. (Link to article in the LA Times)
With he approval, land can start to be acquired and the six billion dollars of much needed construction spending might commence by the spring of 2013. This is good public construction that will require performance bonds and will add thousands of much needed jobs in a state that has been slow in adding jobs. The central valley of CA has been particularly slow in recovering from the great recession and this project can certainly be a much needed shot in the arm for a long depressed area.
