Now there is a judge I need to add to my Christmas card list. Seems there is a bridge between Benwood West Virginia and Bellaire Ohio that is owned by an investment company and a demolition company. While we do not know the entire background, I assume the bridge was purchased from a municipality for the scrap value. The bridge was purchased in 2009 and at the time Benwood wanted the owners to post a $5mm bond.
The owners of the bridge have been ordered by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio to post a $500k surety bond as required to obtain a demolition permit from the City of Benwood WV. While permit bonds are usually easy to obtain, I suspect this one will take a little bond expertise to get placed. As we are an insurance agency that supports 12 people and their families by selling surety bonds, hats off to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio 🙂
