An individual who engages/solicits business, or accepts employment, to conduct private investigations. The individual may not act as a professional investigator without first obtaining a license from the Chief of the State Police.

A passing score on the Private Investigator examination as well as the required work experience is required. Lastly, the application form needs to be submitted.
The license fee for a Private Investigator is $500. $50 must be submitted with the application and $450 submitted upon issuance of the license. In addition, there is a $21 fee for a criminal history check.
