The Ohio Professional Solicitor and Fund-Raising Bond is required by the Ohio Attorney General Charitable Law Section in the amount of $25,000. The bond is necessary to register as a Fund-Raising Counsel OR Professional Solicitor for the period ending March 31 of the current year in accordance with the provisions of Sections 1716.05 and 1716.07 of the Ohio Revised Code. A professional solicitor is any person, group, or other entity that, for compensation, requests donations of money, property, financial assistance or any other thing of value with the representation that the donations, or a portion of the donations, will benefit a charitable organization or will be used for a charitable purpose.
Meanwhile, a fundraising counsel is any person, group, or other entity that is hired by a charitable organization to plan, manage, advise, consult, or prepare material for the solicitation of contributions by any charitable organization. A fundraising counsel does not solicit contributions or employ, procure, or otherwise engage any compensated person to solicit contributions. By getting the bond, the bondholder promises to fully and faithfully observe all provisions of Chapter 1716 of the Ohio Revised Code.
