How to Get a New Jersey Master Plumber License

To become a licensed master plumber in New Jersey, you must meet the following requirements and follow these steps:

Eligibility Requirements

• Age: Be at least 21 years old.
• Education: Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Have at least five years of experience in the plumbing trade, with one year of experience as a licensed Journeyman Plumber.
• Apprenticeship: Complete a four-year apprenticeship program or have a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, plumbing, or sanitary engineering.
• Character: Have a clean criminal record and a good reputation.
• Apply for Approval to Take the Exam

Once you meet the qualifications, you can apply for approval to take the Master Plumber exam online through the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) website. You will need to create an account and submit the following documents:

1. Application fee: Pay the application fee of $150.
2. Work Experience Certification: Provide documentation of your work experience, including a letter from your employer or supervisor and a copy of your Journeyman Plumber license (if applicable).
