The Michigan Driver Education Provider Bond, is a requirement of the Michigan Secretary of State’s office. This requirement is for all who wish to provide Driver Education Instruction for Teen and Adult Drivers, also for Truck Driver Education. The bond amount is determined by the number of students the school enrolls annually.

What is the purpose of a Michigan Driver Education Provider Bond and how much does it cost?

The bond is an assurance that the principal (the applicant), will reimburse or indemnify any student, financing agency or governmental agency for monetary loss caused through fraud, cheating, or misrepresentation in the conduct of the driver while conducting business with the applicant. The amount of the surety bond is as follows:

• Teen/Adult Driver Education Provider
• 999 or fewer students in one calendar year – $20,000
• 1000 or more students in one calendar year – $40,000
• Truck Driver Education Provider – $50,000
