The Maine Investigative Assistant Bond is required by the State of Maine, Department of Public Safety. The bond amount is $20,000 and must be issued by a company authorized to do business in the state.
An individual who acts as a professional investigator under the supervision of a licensed professional investigator. The Investigative Assistant may only engage in the business of private investigating when sponsored by a professional investigator who is licensed under Title 32: Chapter 89.

Individuals must be 21 years or older and be a Citizen or Resident Alien of the United States. In addition, they must have graduated from an accredited high school or been granted the high school equivalent. They need to demonstrate good moral character. Lastly, they need to submit completed application form.
The fee for an Investigative Assistant’s license is $600. $200 must be submitted with the application and $400 submitted upon issuance of the license. In addition, there is a $21 fee for a criminal history check.
