In Washington State, general and specialty contractors must register with the Department of Labor & Industries.
Specialty contractors practicing only one trade need to provide a surety bond in the amount of $6,000. If more than one trade, than the bond amount is $12,000.
After you’ve registered you must use your contractor registration number on all your business communications. By Washington law, when you advertise, solicit bids or offer to perform work, you must always include your contractor registration number. This includes business cards, Yellow Page ads, newspaper ads, estimates and bid proposals.
