According to the Arizona Revised Statutes, the department shall require a surety bond for taxpayers under title 32, chapter 10, or the contractors. There is no set amount for the bond, as it may depend on the kind of work you do as a contractor, but the ARS states that it cannot be less than two thousand dollars ($2,000). It must also be executed by a surety company licensed to do business in the state of Arizona.

This surety bond assures the state that you will follow the rules and regulations as a contractor.  With the surety bond, you are also saying that you will be paying the correct amount of taxes and that you will pay your taxes on time. Failure to do so will result to the surety company paying the state the amount of the bond, and you will need to reimburse the company in full.
