The Alabama Sales Tax Bond is required by the Department of Revenue, Sales & Use Tax Division. The bond states that the bondholder shall pay all taxes, penalties and interest due to the State of Alabama. In addition, the bondholder shall faithfully comply with the provisions of Title 40, Chapter 23, Article 1. As well as, promptly file true reports as required by law.
Who’s Required to have the bond?
After January 1, 2020, any retailer applying for a sales tax license are required to obtain a one-time Sales Tax Bond for a two year term. The sales tax license allows retailers to sell beer, wine and tobacco products. The bond amount is not less than $25,000. In addition, those retailers renewing their license who are non-compliant are required to be bonded. The non-compliant retailer will be notified by the Department. Their bond amount will equal the actual sales tax liability for the three months preceding the occurance of con-comliance. But, not less than $25,000.
