The State of West Virginia Real Estate Commission requires a Real Estate Broker or Salesperson surety bond in the amount of $2,000. This bond is to ensure that any persons who may have any cause of action against such principal in this bond growing out of a real estate transaction will be compensated. Please take note that this surety bond is a requirement for nonresidents only. 

Additional License Requirements

Salesperson

• Submit a completed application 
• Pay the $25 application fee
• Must submit proof of completion of 90 clock hours (6 credit hours) in “Commission Approved” pre-license education courses.
• Must submit to a state and federal criminal background check

Real Estate Broker

• Must be 18 years of age 
• Submit a completed application form
• Pay the $25 application fee
• Must submit proof of 90 clock hours in commission approved real estate courses (for currently licensed salesperson). If not, submit proof of 180 clock hours
• Must have been licensed as a salesperson for a minimum of two years
• Submit a Broker’s Affidavit on Salesperson Training form from all brokers with you have been licensed as a salesperson
• Submit to state and national criminal background check
