Maine Vehicle Title Bond

The Maine Vehicle Title Bond is required by the State of Maine, Secretary of State. The bond shall remain in effect for a 3-year term and is required when a new title is needed for the vehicle. The bond, as stated by Maine Revised Statutes, must be in an amount equal to 1 1/2 times the value of the vehicle as determined by the Secretary of State.

What is the purpose of a Maine Vehicle Title Bond?

There are times when the Secretary of State will not be satisfied as to the ownership of the vehicle. During this time, the certificate of title or certificate of salvage may be withheld. The individual would then need to apply for a replacement Certificate of Title by completing the Certificate of Title application. Along with that the applicant may  be required to post a surety bond, issued by a surety company that is recognized by the state.
