The County of Bernalillo, New Mexico, Public Works Division, requires a Contractor’s Excavation Bond for all those excavating or about to commence the excavating of a public place. The bond amount is $5,000. 
What is the purpose of the New Mexico, Bernalillo County Contractor’s Excavation Bond?
The bond states that the bondholder shall excavate and restore the public place in such a way as to comply with all requirements of the County’s Street Excavation Ordinance. In addition, they shall make payment to the County of all costs incurred by the County. This includes all incomplete or defective materials and workmanship for a three year period.
Additional County requirements before excavating include:
- A $1 million Insurance Certificate with Bernalillo County listed as the additional insured.
- Copy of the Contractors License Certificate.
- Street Excavation Application.
