The Wisconsin Collection Agency Surety Bond is a type of surety bond required to obtain a collection agency license in the state of Wisconsin. The license and surety bond are a requirement of the Department of FinancialWisconsin Collection Agency Surety Bond
Institutions – Division of Banking. The state defines a collection agency as “any person engaging in the business of collecting or receiving for payment for others of any account, bill or other indebtedness.” Person includes entities. A collection agency license is required to collect from any Wisconsin resident, even if the collection activities are only done by phone or mail from an out of state location.

  • Required by: State of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions
  • Minimum Bond Amount: $25,000 required if records are maintained in the state.
  • Maximum Bond Amount: $35,000 required if records are maintained outside of Wisconsin
  • The bond is continuous meaning a new bond is in force unless cancelled by the surety.

This bond guarantees that the principle will abide by all Wisconsin state laws. The applicant should verify the bond amount with the obligee before applying for the bond to ensure the bond amount is correct. Since this bond is continuous, it is in full force and effect until cancelled. If the bond is cancelled, the obligee must be notified of the cancellation at least 30 days before the cancellation date.
